Winter Car Care – Wiper Blades

As winter descends upon us in full, are you having a hard time seeing through your windshield in inclement weather?

Over time your wiper blades can deteriorate, losing flexibility and their ability to keep your windshield clean. Exposure to sunlight, freezing temperatures, summer heat, road grime, and oxidation will all take their toll on your wipers. You’ll know for sure that your wiper blades are worn when you can no longer see clearly through your windshield. But, why wait until it’s too late?

Poor road visibility is a leading cause of auto accidents. While, replacing your wiper blades is an inexpensive way to make your driving experience a safer one.

Generally, wiper blade replacement is recommended every 6-12 months. And, during this season when our road weather is more severe, it’s high time to replace your old wiper blades. Be sure to stop by our service department the next time you’re out and pick up a pair. We’ll even give you hand installing them, and send you on your way better prepared for winter driving.

America Recycles Day

Today is America Recycles Day! It’s celebrated every November 15th here in the United States and is about promoting the benefits of recycling and encouraging more people to join in and create a better natural environment. And, it’s working! Since the holiday began in 1997, Americans are both better informed and recycling more.

However, there is still more work to be done. Recycling a single aluminum can save enough energy to power a television for up to 3 hours; but according to the National Recycling Coalition, Americans are tossing enough aluminum cans into landfills to rebuild the entire US fleet of commercial airplanes – every three months!

We can all do better. Today, let’s take a moment to consider our own recycling habits, and consider how we can improve them. Even a small change can make a big difference.

ABS Brakes –What are they?

Anti-lock braking system (ABS) is an automobile safety system that allows the wheels on a motor vehicle to maintain tractive contact with the road surface according to driver inputs while braking, preventing the wheels from locking up (ceasing rotation) and avoiding uncontrolled skidding.

ABS generally offers improved vehicle control and decreases stopping distances on dry and slippery surfaces for many drivers; however, on loose surfaces like gravel or snow-covered pavement, ABS can significantly increase braking distance, although still improving vehicle control.

Myth Buster

Myth: Let your engine warm up for several minutes before driving.

Reality: For yesteryear's cars –yes, but not today. Modern engines warm up more quickly when they're driven. And the sooner they warm up, the sooner they reach maximum efficiency and deliver the best fuel economy.

5 Steps to Winning a Go Kart Race

1.      Have good posture. This leads to better turning control.
2.      Learn how to make an efficient turn (see above picture).
3.      Do most of your breaking before you start turning. The less time you're on the break during the turn, the faster you will go and the wheels won't lock.
4.      Pass people by being faster at turns and cruising by them at the apex.
5.      Go full-throttle on the straightaways.

Then enjoy a victory dance after you win.
