Chevrolet Revs Up for Its Return to The Oscars®

Every year, tens of millions of viewers in the United States watch The Oscars. For the next five years, Chevrolet will advertise its award-winning vehicles as part of this night of stars.

As part of its return to The Oscars, Chevrolet is looking to independent filmmakers to tell a story celebrating the simple, yet significant moments in life. During the broadcast praising the top movies in the industry, Chevrolet is providing aspiring filmmakers an opportunity to have their own moment of recognition. The selected commercial could air during The Oscars on ABC.

Chevrolet will work with MOFILM, a global creative community, to call on its filmmakers throughout the world to create short films that celebrate the moments in life that happen between A and B. Chevrolet used crowdsourcing to produce the memorable “Happy Grad” spot that aired in 2012.

“As new roads in daily life are found and explored, Chevrolet vehicles naturally become a part of significant moments and memories,” said Tim Mahoney, Global Chevrolet chief marketing officer. “We hope the ingenuity of this program will allow filmmakers to capture the essence of what owning a Chevrolet means to people around the world.”

For the first time in a Chevrolet and MOFILM project, early scripts will be considered for mentorship by a panel of celebrities and prominent professionals, including the Academy Award®-winning producer of “Titanic” and “Avatar” Jon Landau; Academy Award-nominated director, producer, writer, actor, CEO and educator Spike Lee; Chevrolet’s Mahoney, and Commonwealth Chairman and Chief Creative Officer, Global Brands, Linus Karlsson.

The project is open from June through November 2013. Filmmakers who want to potentially receive guidance from the expert panel must submit their scripts by August 16, 2013. The selected spot could air during the ceremony on ABC on Oscar® Sunday, March 2, 2014.

Tips for an eco-friendly car wash!

#1: Get off the pavement.
If you change nothing else in your car-care routine, park your vehicle on a flat, permeable surface(lawn, gravel, or dirt) rather than on pavement. Natural microbes in grass, soil, and dirt work as natural filters, breaking down some of the nasty compounds in your wash water and preventing them from running off into the nearest storm drain.

Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel Delivers Classic Muscle Car Torque

Imagine quick off-the-line acceleration reminiscent of a classic muscle car combined with the efficiency of a fuel-sipping compact sedan. Dream on? Believe it. The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel uses a turbocharging feature called “overboost,” but still gets the best highway fuel economy of any non-hybrid passenger car in America.

Cruze Diesel’s turbocharged 2.0L engine delivers a segment-leading SAE-certified 151 horsepower (113 kW) and 264 lb-ft of torque (358 Nm), but overboost can increase torque to 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) for about 10 seconds of stronger acceleration. That’s the equivalent torque delivered by the 1972 Camaro Z28’s heavier 5.7L V8.

Unlike the muscle car era, Cruze Diesel marries that quick burst to a segment-leading EPA-estimated 46 mpg highway, and demonstrated range of 717 miles on one tank of fuel.
“Overboost provides increased performance when the driver demands it, like when passing on the highway,” said Mike Siegrist, GM 2.0L diesel assistant chief engineer. “When the driver leans on the throttle, the turbocharger increases the air and fuel intake over and above what the engine needs for normal torque demand.”

So taking the “muscle” analogy one step further, overboost is to Cruze Diesel as oxidation is to athletes when their muscles use oxygen to break down carbohydrates, fat and protein to produce energy. The more oxygen they take in, the better their performance. Cruze Diesel can sprint from 0 to 60 in about 8.6 seconds – half a second faster than its chief competitor, the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L TDI.

Cruze’s 2.0L turbo-diesel provides greater fuel economy than a comparably sized gasoline engine through greater thermal efficiency, a higher compression ratio and an unthrottled combustion process. It features an iron cylinder block and a forged steel crankshaft, each designed to stand up to the greater cylinder pressures that come with a turbo-diesel engine.

A lightweight aluminum cylinder head and aluminum intake manifold contribute to the engine’s ability to deliver balanced ride and handling.

Turbocharging is an increasingly popular choice with automakers and car buyers. According to LMC Automotive, a provider of automotive forecasts, turbo-charged passenger vehicle production in North America is expected to double by 2018, from 14 percent in 2013 to 29 percent, mainly due to increased diesel production, as well as four-cylinder turbo gas engines replacing V6 engines.
“Cruze’s turbo-diesel engine is powerful, efficient and clean,” Siegrist said. “It will change perceptions of what a diesel car can be while giving customers another fuel-efficient choice in the Chevrolet lineup.”

Chevrolet Signs with United States Soccer Federation

Chevrolet and the United States Soccer Federation announced a three-year sponsorship deal today that makes Chevrolet the Official Partner of U.S. Soccer and helps the brand leverage the sport’s surging popularity in the U.S., where a soccer player lives in 30 percent of households.

“As fans well know, soccer is much more than the world’s favorite sport; it’s a communal experience and way of life,” said Molly Peck, director of Chevrolet Advertising and Sales Promotions.
“Our new U.S. Soccer partnership complements Chevrolet’s Global Soccer footprint that includes Manchester United and One World Futbol Project sponsorships. By bringing our customers closer to these initiatives, we’ll share the love of soccer all over the world, whether it’s parents driving youngsters to a Chevy Youth Soccer team practice, transforming the lives of children around the world through the power of play, to cheering on favorite teams at the FIFA World Cup next year in Brazil.”

U.S. Soccer, which is celebrating its first 100 years throughout 2013, is the governing body of all forms of soccer in the country and manages numerous teams that compete globally and regionally year-round, including the U.S. National Men’s and Women’s Teams, Youth National Teams, Men’s and Women’s Olympic teams and the Development Academy with 80 elite youth clubs throughout the U.S. Its sanctioning authority strengthens the grassroots Chevy Youth Soccer program, which involves nearly 1,000 dealers and 850,000 youth throughout the U.S.

“Chevrolet has an impressive history as a global brand and we’re excited to begin this partnership,’ said U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati. “We are looking forward to working closely with such a committed and supportive company across all of our National Teams, especially our Youth National Teams and Development Academy.”

The U.S. Soccer partnership was developed and finalized between Chevrolet and Soccer United Marketing.

Through the Founding Sponsorship of One World Futbol Project, Chevrolet is donating 1.5 million virtually indestructible One World Futbols to youth in war-stricken zones, refugee camps, disaster areas, and underprivileged communities around the world.  The One World Futbol never goes flat and never needs a pump, even when punctured, providing endless play to children who need it most.
Already the No. 1 sport in the world, soccer’s popularity in the U.S. is growing, especially among coveted millennial consumers – those aged 12-24 – ranking second only to the NFL. Many of these 80 million Americans grew up playing youth soccer. The expansion of social and digital media also has allowed American soccer fans to stay abreast of overseas leagues, teams and players and be part of global communities.

Last year, Chevrolet announced a deal that made it the Official Automotive Partner of Manchester United – one of the most widely supported football teams in the world. Beginning in 2014, the Chevrolet bowtie will appear on Manchester United jerseys for seven years.

Summer road trip tip: Keep essential items close!

On your road trip, it is necessary that you have a pack of small essentials ready on your front seat. It is important that you keep certain items handy, like snacks and also first aid items. This will prevent you from having to stop to dig into the fully loaded trunk or find something at the store. Also, let everyone have their own bag or backpack at their feet. Have everybody participate in choosing the items that he or she would like to have it put in the box or in the backpack. You might include favorite snacks, games, music players, magazines – it’s up to each person! You’ll be happy to have these items at your disposal instead of searching for them in the back of the car.

Here’s your “Maintenance Monday” Tip: Slow Down!

It may seem fun to drive fast, or you might simply be in a hurry, but speeding is incredibly dangerous and bad for your car. Driving slower puts less demand on your car’s engine and transmission, and also helps to reduce the amount of gas you use.
